How the Rich & Corporations Control Government – a fifty year story……

In my research over the past ten years into why the US looks the way it does, early on I noticed that, despite the rhetoric of free-markets, competition, and small government, the rich and corporations have always undertsood that those who control the making of laws and regualtions can shape who benefits from the economy. They actively use the power of government to rig the economy to their benefit.

Here are three sources to understand how this works.

First, back in 2013 Professor Lawrence Lessig gave a TedTalk “We the People, and the Republic we must reclaim” that illustrates the fundamentals of how the rich and corporations dominate our political system. (18 minutes long)

Second, we have a podcast from This American Life “Take the Money and Run for Office” from 2012 that explains the real life of our legislators raising money for campaigns. (3 parts – 47 minutes)

Now you may think that sources that are now over twelve years old might not be accurate today.
