Bran Muffins & Triscuits as a measure of income inequality over the past 50 years

getting our heads around the scale of the inequality

I cook bran muffins for my breakfast regularly. After writing the recent post, Seven Numbers That Reveal the Past Fifty Years of Income and Wealth Inequality, I wondered how I might visualize the last fifty years of income inequality using my bran muffins.

195% Growth over Fifty Years

Median Family Income over the same Fifty Years

57% growth for the median family, while the economy as a whole grew 195%.

What if the growth in the economy had been distributed equally over those fifty years?

Guess who has all the money?

YUP! – it’s the top 10% and especially the top 1%!!
