a truly staggering number

This chart shows the 2022 distribution of US war1 spending relative to the world. Trump’s proposed 50% increase in the war budget to $1.5 trillion would change this chart a bit. It would need to show the budgets for the next 70 countries in the world to equal this outrageous proposal.
A $1.5 trillion war budget in the US is equal to the next 70 countries in the world.
What have we seen from all this military spending? Endless wars, military incursions, regime changes, and extra-judicial killings. The current regime in Iran can trace its roots back to the overthrow of a democratically elected government in 1953. What can we say of the domino theory to explain US support for the French occupation of Vietnam in the 1950s, followed by more than ten years of direct involvement? What can we say of dropping more munitions on Vietnam, a country roughly twice the size of Wisconsin? What can we say of dropping more munitions on Vietnam than all of the munitions used by all parties during WWII? Or, how ‘bout those WMDs in Iraq. And then we have numerous incursions and regime changes in Latin America over the last 60 years. How are these contributing to the defense of the US?
